Instrument Transformers

CTB

The CTB series measuring transformers are used to detect and measure traction currents on various rail vehicles with nominal frequency f = 50Hz AC voltages and currents for energy measurement purposes. Nominal contact wire voltages are, for example, 1.5kV~, 15kV~, and 25kV~. The currents are magnetically detected at an auxiliary winding of the vehicle transformer and transformed—galvanically isolated—to the electronic measurement side, e.g., at ratios of 10:1, 50:1, or 100:1. By connecting a burden resistor (e.g., 10, 25, 50Ω), a measurement value is provided for evaluation that is proportionally linear to the input current and remains galvanically isolated from the primary side. The measuring transformers feature high linearity across the entire operating temperature range and are protected against dust, moisture, and dirt by potting.

The VTB series measuring transformers are used to convert rail vehicle 50Hz AC voltages for measurement purposes. Overhead line voltages of 1.5kV~, 15kV~, and 25kV~ are magnetically detected at a vehicle transformer auxiliary winding and transformed—galvanically isolated—to the electronic measurement side, for example, at a ratio of 30:1. By connecting a burden resistor (e.g., 25 Ω), a measurement value proportional and linear to the input voltage is made available for evaluation.
